The Papist mug design refers to the tradition of papists - supporters of the papacy and its authority in religious and political matters. The term particularly referred to Catholics in Protestant countries, where it was often used pejoratively. Over the years, however, it has taken on a new meaning, becoming a symbol of commitment to the heritage of the Catholic Church and a way to irritate your local prots. 

The central element of the design is the papal tiara, a sign of supreme spiritual authority, combined with the crossed keys of St Peter, which symbolize authority over heaven and earth. The whole is surrounded by olive branches, a universal symbol of peace. Below the graphic is the inscription ‘PAPIST’ in a stylized font, emphasizing the historical and ideological dimension of the design.
